This year, Otsukimi festival falls on 19 Sept. Do you know that the moon is exceptionally bright and very beautiful on this very night?
In Japan, people say that a rabbit lives on the moon and pounds rice cakes, and so it is common to see bunny and rice dumplings motifs in the depiction of Otsukimi festival. One of Otsukimi traditions is also to enjoy eating dango (rice dumplings).
So I decided to feature My Melody admiring the beautiful autumn full moon in this Otsukimi bento. My Melody holds a stick of mini hanami dango…nom nom~~Have you tried dango before? It’s really yummy!

今回お月見のキャラベンを作りました。マイメロディは月見するのが嬉しがっています。お花見団子も食べています。笑～
今年のお月見は九月十九日です。早く来ていますね。

Interestingly, this festival is celebrated in many Asian countries, including Japan, Singapore and Taiwan etc; though as briefly noted, the name of the festival and its customs and traditions vary.
In Singapore here, known as Mid Autumn Festival/Celebration, the traditions include carrying paper lanterns while enjoying the beautiful moon (though nowadays most are battery operated plastic ones :P).
Mooncakes are also eaten. It is a popular baked sweet sold only during this period。 This traditional sweet has also modernised and wide variety of flavors can be found. One can find the traditional lotus paste to 'new flavors' like truffle, durian and even charcoal! O.O Remember to take some time this Thursday to enjoy the beauty of the full autumn moon!
