Quil Fait Bon and Kyobashi Senbikiya

I love Japanese fruit tarts and their fruit desserts. Wanted to share with you this two awesome places I visited in Japan, in Kyoto and another in Tokyo.

In fact I was inspired that I baked my own homemade strawberry fruit tart which I will be sharing in my next blog post.

But here are some mouth-watering pictures to tempt you first.

Kyoto - Quil Fait Bon
A really quaint little patisserie that sits just next to a small canal, the interior has a country like feel to it. Very pretty. We arrived at about 430pm and it was almost full to the brim.

First you head to their counter displaying the their amazing range of fruit tarts, make your selection and they will usher you in.

I had the mixed-berries fruit tart (strawberries, blackberries, raspberries) while my hubby took the muscat fruit tart (green grapes).

The muscat fruit tart was amazing, we preferred it over the mixed-berries fruit tart which was a tad too sour. Unfortunately, we forgot to take a photo of the muscat tart. :P

They have outlets in other parts of Japan too. So you can visit their other patisserie stores. One of them is located at Tokyo skytree!

Oh yes! some of their tarts are also seasonal, using the season's ingredients and fruits. The muscat fruit tart that we had was a seasonal item sold from Sept to Oct. Some of the fruit tart creations are also unique to a particular outlet. Check them out when you visit!

Tokyo - Kyobashi Senbikiya

Senbikiya is Japan's oldest fruit store. Kyobashi Senbikiya (the fruit restaurant of Senbikiya) was established since 1881.

I can't believe that it took me the 3rd trip to Tokyo to finally sat down and ordered their delicious desserts.

I visited the Kyobashi Senbikiya store located within Tokyo JR station (note that some of their stores do not have dine-in options).

Senbikiya is famous for their luxury fruits, fruits grown to perfection and often bought as gifts (since they are very pricey). Their muskmelons are very very famous which is why I ordered their muskmelon panna cota, which was amazing! (even for a not quite melon lover :P).

Their famous muskmelons are grown in Shizouka prefecture at controlled temperatures to achieve the sweetness and perfectness in its shape and even the marks on the melon skin.
