Ramen Champion opens at Great World City ラーメンチャンピオン・グレートワールドシティ

For the fans of Ramen Champion, you will be happy to know that they have opened a brand new outlet at Great World City! Their 2 other outlets are located at Bugis+ and Changi Airport Terminal 3.
In conjunction with the opening of their Great World City outlet, they organised a Ramen Big Eater Challenge on 14 November 2013.

Results of this competition was jaw dropping! Celebrity competitive eater, Tomoko Miyake san from Japan won the competition hands down, against ten male competitors and she walked away with a grand prize of $10,000 alongside the title. And, Tomoko san, who is a model is a mere petite size of 152cm and weighs only 40kg!

Anyway, back to the the ramen! I was invited for a blogger session food tasting to try out the signature ramen and side dishes from the four representing brands at Ramen Champion Great World City.

Here is my take on the food that was served~ Itadakimasu!

Even if you are not a fan of ramen, I recommend the gyoza from Bishamon Zero at Ramen Champion. It got thumbs up not just from me but also from the fellow bloggers with me that day!

--BISHAMON ZERO--
Okonomiyaki Gyoza (5 pcs) $5.80 – with bonito flakes
Love this! The sauces and bonito flakes matched so well with the gyoza. The gyoza is crispy on the outside and still retain the juicy pork fillings. yum! Will be back for seconds~
Mentaiko Gyoza (5 pcs) $5.80
Pretty generous spicy mentaiko toppings on top. Tastewise, I would say that the okonomiyaki gyoza was better.
Tori Karaage $4.80
Frankly the chicken was a little dry, though the spice flavours were good. Recommend to eat this with the mayonnaise dip.
Sapporo Miso Special Ramen $14.80
The broth made from pork and chicken was pretty flavourful and the chilli spice added a nice kick to the broth. Got a thumbs up around the dinner table :) Most of my blogger friends also commented that they would come back for seconds for this ramen. Personally I like the generous vegetables (corn, shiro-negi, spring onion, bamboo shoots).

Special Tonkotsu Ramen $16.50
The broth is really rich, milky. The pork based tonkotsu broth won me over! I also especially like the thin style noodles, great combination! You can really 'taste' the hours of goodness from long hours of cooking the broth! I also like how the egg is done just right, seasoned on the outside with the slightly runny egg yolk!

Pork and Vegetable Ramen $16
A broth base of chicken and pork, this ramen is definitely one that fills the tummy! Super generous serving of noodles and vegetables. I can see an army boy very happy with this meal. It may be too large a serving for ladies. The noodles are thick and curly, a type that I am not such a huge fan. But the broth is pretty light and refreshing change from the usual thick soup.
Spicy Chicken (3 pcs) $5
Surprisingly, I actually enjoyed this. Not a fan of fried food usually, the chicken wings was pretty yummy for me. It did not leave the oil aftertaste. The japanese spices used for the flavors together with the zest of the lemon was a great combination. What was interesting was that the chicken skin texture was more chewy than crispy.
Special Sukiyaki Ramen $16
The broth is cooked ith pork bones and vegetables and true to its name - Sukiyaki, it has the usual sweetness found in sukiyaki. So if you are not a fan of 'sweet' food, better to go with other ramen. The egg served was a half-cooked egg, very different from the usual ramen style. I do love the sukiyaki thinly sliced pork which was really delicious and a great contrast in texture when you eat it with the other ingredients.
