I was really happy to be invited by the Singapore Management University's Women Connection and Gourmet Club to hold a bento workshop for their students last weekend.
The turnout was great! We have some 25 students who joined us to create a Valentine theme bento. They wanted something cute and pretty, so we decided on Rilakkuma and Hello Kitty as these are popular characters.
I want to say a BIG thank you to everyone who came that day. I really love everyone's positive energy and had lot of fun! All the bentos made were awesome too.
Many of the students also eagerly asked me questions during and after class! So awesome! Really glad that I could share the bento culture and bento making tips with them.
Here are the ingredients for the bento as requested by the students. To the students: I hope you find the class fun and if you have further questions, please feel free to comment or drop me a PM on my facebook page.
Rilakkuma:
- cooked Japanese short grain rice
*add and mix in some teriyaki sauce or soy sauce to make the rice brown
- seaweed for the features
Hello Kitty:
- cooked Japanese short grain rice
- seaweed for the features
- ham or sausage or crabstick (red layer) for the ribbon
- corn or cheddar cheese slice or egg sheet for the nose
Side dishes:
- soft boil eggs (boil medium size eggs for about 6 mins)
- prawn croquette (you can use prawn patties from CP brand, they are easy and very yummy)
