Today I made Japanese Plum Blossom Sushi Art Roll Bento.

I almost always make kazarimaki sushi (sushi art rolls) when there are leftover rice. Yesterday I was doing a shoot for an upcoming television series on StarHub cable tv, featuring my bento (more about the show coming soon - will be blogging about that), and there were about 2 cups of leftover rice from the shoot. I decided to mix in some vinegar and sugar for sushi rice, and made ume flower kazarimaki sushi this morning.

Ume Flower, or known as Japanese plum blossoms are starting to flower now in Japan, I have been seeing such beautiful photos on social media channels! I hope that one day I will be able to do ume viewing in Japan!

This sushi art roll design is part of the JSIA's kazarimaki rushi certification course at level 2, I made a slight variation of it by replacing the core of the flower with thin tamgoyaki strips, I wanted the flower to look more like ume flower. Do you like it?

The side dishes were baked salmon, prawns, japanese style vegetables stew of mushroom, lotus root, sweet peas and carrots.
