Today I made ONE PIECE Luffy Toast Art Bento Box! I am quite happy that Luffy character turned out pretty close to the actual manga/anime, especially since I drew the illustration freehand.

It was actually very therapeutic to draw Luffy, kind of felt like the old days where I cooped up in the art studio in school.

Hope you like this fun breakfast bento! Made this for my hubby today :D
Finally I feel more confident to share with you the making of toast art. I have made some earlier on and posted them (have also practiced and ended up not posting those).

Perhaps you might be keen to find out (and try making) how toast art can be created. I am sure there are tons of other way to make it, so this is one method that works for me now. Hope you enjoy the toast art recipe.

I was inspired to make toast art because @bellchan_cooking_bento who has shared her toast art creations on social media channels.

Tutorial for ONE PIECE Luffy Toast Art

*You can apply the following techniques to other designs and characters you want. Be creative!
Explore different possible food ingredients. For instance, matcha powder, purple sweet potato powder, milo powder, milk powder, caramel powder, cocoa powder can all be used to provide colors. You can also use food coloring if you are okay with that.

Ingredients
- White bread (multigrain and wholewheat bread not recommended as you want a smooth surface to work on. Bread with a lot of air pockets is also not good for the same reason - over here I used the Snow Blanc bread from Four Leaves.)
- Margarine
- Cocoa powder
- Chocolate sauce
- Cinnamon sugar
- Red food coloring

Tools
- Butter knife
- Brushes (You want small fine brushes for this. You can use brushes from art shops, or even make up brushes - dont buy too ex ones. :P Below is the photo of the brushes I used)

Method
1) Spread a thin and even layer of margarine on the bread slice. This helps create a base for you to work your design on.
Tip: if your design will cover almost the entire slice of bread, please spread the margarine all the way to the sides.
2) In a small bowl, add some cocoa powder. Then squeeze in some chocolate sauce at the side. Mix some of the cocoa powder (not all) with the chocolate sauce so that the chocolate sauce will have a thicken consistency.
3) Using your finest brush, use the thicken chocolate sauce from step 2 and draw the outlines. You will have to constantly dip the chocolate sauce and draw, to complete a longer line. Sometimes at some parts where the lines do not join, you can use a dabbing action so that the chocolate sauce will adhere to the bread.
4) Next, fill in your illustration with the various powders/coloring. Over here, I used cinnamon sugar for Luffy's hat and also parts of the drumstick. Chocolate sauce from step 2 was used for the hair. Cocoa powder was used for the drumstick. Red food coloring (not too much) was used for part of the hat and the clothes.
5) Now you are done! Pack this fun toast art into your bento or simply have them as a snack!
