[New Store] Legendary Hong Kong at Jurong Point

After my short stay in Hong Kong back in 2006 and eating all the authentic Hong Kong yummy food, I always lamented that it is difficult to find good authentic Hong Kong Char Chan Teng food here in Singapore. While we have good Chinese restaurants here, I do miss the Char Chan Teng food.

When I got invited to the official opening of Legendary Hong Kong at Jurong Point, I was curious and frankly tad excited to see what were offered to diners. I am glad I accepted the invitation as I was quite impressed with some of the food.

Legendary Hong Kong hired 8 established chefs in their own speciality from Hong Kong, determined to give diners authentic Hong Kong cuisine. Be wowed by their extensive menu of over 300 items and get prepared to walk into a 230 seater restaurant setting designed to resemble the narrow streets and char chan teng stores in Hong Kong. The restaurant has 4 narrorw entrances, each corresponding to the sub-themes of the restaurant, including Roast Meat, Noodles and Congee, Dim Sum and Bing Sut (where drinks, desserts and toasts are sold).

With such an extensive menu, I wish we had the time and stomach to try them all (of course we couldn't :P) but we did have the opportunity to enjoy selected items from the menu at the media tasting session.
This is a place I will try to visit again. I want to try their other menu items ^ ^ The whole place was packed during the media tasting and with all the din going on, it totally felt like back in Hong Kong :P! haha

One thing I did noticed was that some of the staff were not very familiar about where the tables were (so some of the orders were kind of mixed up), some teething issues for a newly opened restaurant I guess.

Amongst the menu tasting items, I really enjoyed the sauteed turnip cake with XO sauce and egg, chicken claws in black bean sauce, red bean & lotus seed ice, thick rice roll with dough fritters .
Sauteed Turnip Cake with XO Sauce and Egg $5.50
This was one of our favourite dishes, the turnip cake was hot and nicely crisp when served, and the XO sauce really brought out the Hong Kong taste. Though a little oily since XO sauce is used, this was a tasty dish. My hubby loved it too!
Rice Roll with Prawns & Chives $5.50
Decent thin soft rice rolls with prawns and chives. Not exceptionally amazing though, but it's a okay dish and nice constrast with the other 'heavier' items on the menu.
Custard Crust Bun with Butter $2.50
Hong Kong famous bread is here! Served with a generous slab of butter between this 'Po Luo' bread. Nice snack or afternoon tea item.
Roast London Duck ($14.80 portion, $30 half, $58 whole)
Yes, this is the famous 'London Roast Duck'. Legendary Hong Kong has managed to sign an exclusive deal with Silver Hill Farms to serve these roast ducks. Silver Hill Farm in Ireland is supposedly known for their high quality grade of duck as these ducks are handled with care in all aspects of the farming process and are fed on a totally natural diet. I was full of anticipation when I tried this, but this dish did not quite suit my taste buds. The duck meat had a slight oily aftertaste. The meat was however succulent and the skin was really crispy.
Thick Rice Roll with Dough Fritters $4.50
Another yummy dish I enjoyed. The constrast of the soft rice rolls with the crispy inner dough fritters was such a joy to eat. Drizzled on some sweet salty soy based sauce, yummy!! :)
Chicken Claws in Black Bean Sauce $4.00
I have always been a fan of chicken claws in dim sum menu, this one was pretty good. I like how the sauce was not too sweet and it was not too oily too. I actually finished the whole serving on my own!
Red Bean and Lotus Seed Ice $4.50
I used to have a nickname called Miss Red Bean, as I love red beans (be it in desserts and drinks. I was happy to find this authentic tasting red bean ice here at Legendary Hong Kong. It tasted just like what I had back in Hong Kong and the red bean was generous which I was really thrilled.
Hong Kong Style Tea & Coffee Mix (Yuan Yang) $2.80 cold, $2.20 hot
Black Tea with Lemon $2.80 cold, $2.20 hot
Both drinks were pretty decent, sweetness and consistency level were just right.
