I hope you like this Jackie the Bear Sandwich bento. Technically I made four Jackie bears, since there are two sandwich buns of Jackie cut outs and two quail eggs, one where the Jackie bear is seen popping out of the sandwich, the other has its head in so you only see its butt. :P

Jackie the bear is a popular character from The Bear School, a picture book that gain huge popularity in Japan. They even have a movie in the works!

The sandwich buns are inspired by a Pinterest post I saw. I made my own version and also created a photo tutorial for the sandwich bento recipe. If you like to follow me on Pinterest, please add me at @littlemissbento.

I added my quail egg creations cause I wanted more details in the Jackie bear bento.

The sandwich fillings were egg mayonnaise and some lettuce leaves. The sides were really simple, just some broccoli, pumpkin and blueberries. The little flowers were made from egg white and ham.

The ingredients for the Jackie bear sandwich in this bento included:
  • Jackie Bear Quail Egg (hard boiled quail eggs with some brown food coloring, seaweed)
  • Jackie Bear Sandwich Buns (dinner rolls, egg white, egg with a little light brown color, seaweed, ham)
The steps to make the buns are below! Have fun :) (Click on the images if you wish to view them larger)

キャラ弁のおかずは簡単ですね。ブロッコリー、カボチャ、ブルーベリーです。主菜はジャッキーの卵サンドイッチですよ。

Jackie the Bear Sandwich Bun for Bento Recipe

「くまのがっこう」・ジャッキー卵サンドイッチのレシピ
Ingredients
2 dinner bread rolls
Sandwich filling of your choice
Some egg white or sliced cheese/sliced cheddar cheese
Seaweed

Tools
Small cutting knife
Food tweezers
Small scissors
Bear cutter (optional)
Method
1)  If you have a bear shape cutter, press the cutter mold on the dinner roll. The strength should be just enough to make a slight indentation mark. This is just to make things easier for the next step.
Assuming if you do not have, you can skip this and go straight to step 2 and cut freehand as well.
2) Use the small knife and cut the bear shape around the outlines. The cut should be just about 0.5cm depth.
3) Gently, with the assistance of the cutting knife, or with your hands, remove the top layer of the bread. This will give you a cut out shape of the bear showing the white part of the dinner roll.
4) Repeat Step 1 & 2.
5) This time, instead of peeling the cut out away. Please cut and make another outline, sightly larger following the shape.
6) Remove that line outline strip of bread and you will get a nice cut out of the bear shape outline.
7) For this sandwich bun, use either your food tweezer or toothpick (or anything sharp :P), and make little markings for the facial features.
8) This should be your two completed sandwich bread bun for the bento.
9) Add the features for the first bread bun. Over here, I used scissors to cut out the small strips for the forehead, 2 round circles for the eyes, one oval and 3 strips for the nose. The base of the nose was egg white that is lightly colored with brown coloring. You can also use sliced cheddar cheese instead.
10) Add the features for the second bread bun. Over here, I used scissors to cut out 2 round circles for the eyes, one oval and 3 strips for the nose. The base of the nose is egg white. You can also use sliced cheese instead.
11) And now you are done! :) All you have to do is to fill the sandwich bun with your favourite ingredients and pack them in your bento.
