Totoro Bento!
Presenting to you the first creative collaboration between myself and Vickii from V's Kitchen! :)
Since we are both big fans of Japanese stuff and also Totoro, we decided that it will be super awesome to come together to create something that we both love - Totoro!! Check out the super cute Totoro macarons made by Vickii for my bento!
Don't we all love Totoro? ^ ^
For this bento creation, I made Totoro onigiri (rice ball). The side dishes were baked salmon, tamagoyaki (Japanese egg omelette), broccoli, lettuce and some sauteed mushrooms with truffle oil.
To make Totoro rice ball, simply shape the Totoro's body then wrap the seaweed sheet around. I cut a circle for the 'tummy' and slits along the edges of the seaweed sheet before wrapping. Totoro's ears were also made from seaweed and rice and eyes were made of egg sheet (egg white only) and seaweed. The chibi mini Totoro was even easier, using just rice for the body, egg sheet and seaweed for the eyes!
Me and Vickii became friends after meeting at an event and subsequently keeping close contact on Instagram. Vickii is an aspiring marketer and a self taught baker. She makes really awesome macarons, cakes and even granola. Check out her beautiful creations on her blog here.
Her black sesame Totoro macarons were really yummy! I usually find macarons too sweet for me, but hers was not! The fragrance of the sesame was superb, the macarons had perfect feet, was nice and airy, with creamy sesame center sandwiched between. Super yum, I had to stop myself after popping two in less than 5 mins! haha.
Ahh... love Totoro!
Today's bento was packed in my Magewappa Classic Bento Box from Bento&Co.
