Kitty Cat Bento! I made the kitty cats from mashed potato, loving the end result ^ ^
This was inspired by the many photos that my friend posted of the Cat Cafe (Neko no Niwa) here in Singapore and also from the super cute neko namagashi (traditional sweets) made by Japanese housewife Caroline.
I hope you like this cute and fun breakfast bento. I packed the kitty cat characters with chicken and egg pita bread sandwich. Ended up using the same woven bento box as yesterday as the pita bread sandwich fitted well into the box.
Having a busy afternoon and evening today and thought that a nice breakfast bento would be lovely to start the day ^ ^
As mentioned, the kitty cat characters were made from mashed potato. I used Russet potatoes as these potatoes give a smooth white flesh after cooking and are great for making mashed potatoes.
After washing and peeling, I diced the potatoes into small bite size pieces and steam it for approx 13 mins. I then used a masher to create the smooth mashed potato. After sectioning some small portions, yellow, brown and black icing colors were added to create the colored mashed potato. After that it was all just molding and shaping - very very fun, its like playing with molding dough or clay ^^
