I received an invitation to take a food trip to MooJaa. MooJaa serves authentic thai Moo Ka Ta cuisine, literally means "Pork Skillet" in Thai and refers to the special cooking apparatus created to enjoy both barbecue and hot pot at the same time.
A trough of soup sits on a crock of charcoal, and a dome shaped grill is placed on the trough. This allows the smoke from the charcoal to waft up to the grill, perfuming the meats with some seriously fragrant "wok hei".
Located at Keong Saik Road, it was easy to locate the restaurant and I reached with my Man at around 530pm on a Sunday afternoon. Lucky for us, since by 6pm, the place was already filling up.

Ok.. Now to the main part. The FOOD :) I was pleasantly surprised at the portions. It was a generous serving. Me and the Man took the Ala-Carte Buffet ($32 per person). (BURP)
Not many BBQ places probably offer authentic charcoal style way of cooking, but here is the proof :) And not just any charcoal, I was told that only quality Binchotan Japanese charcoal was used.
Don't worry if you dunno how to get started with cooking, the folks from MooJaa will help you with the first round of cooking. They provide this service for all their diners, be it your first or repeated visit.
Basically, a cube of pork lard is place at the top of the dome, and it melts into unctuous fatty goodness, adding a great fragrance and crisp to the meats barbecued on the dome.
My favorite has to be the chicken meat. Dont underestimate this 'plain' looking meat :) gosh it was superb!
And alert for ALL FOODIES! Must try must try the sauces. They may just look like some usual sauces, but I was really surprised. It was so so yummy!
Which I later found out from them that the sauces are made from over 30 different herbs and spaces and boiled for over 6 hours! Made in house by their thai chef. The red sauce is spicy bbq sauce and green sauce is their sweet sour seafood sauce.
Definitely worth a visit :) food is yummy and fresh. Do go early if you can since the place was already queueing when I left at 7-ish.
And why MooJaa?? MooJaa is a popular slang word meaning "My lovely pig!" and commonly used by couples who have put on a little of that "happy weight" during their relationship!
