Tutorial for Using Egg Mold in Bento

Another bento tutorial that I created last year. Sharing it first time here on my blog. In additional to the panda rice molds (see my panda onigiri tutorial here), I thought some of you might have these egg molds but never got around to using them. Hope you will like this tutorial!

These egg molds can sometimes be a little tricky to use as each of the different shapes adapt to slightly different sizes of eggs. So don't give up if your first couple of tries fail, it does take a little practice to figure out the sizes required.

In today's tutorial. I demonstrated using the car shape egg mold. There are so many different designs, check them out at Bento&Co's store here

Tutorial for using Egg Mold in Bento

Ingredients
- 1 medium large egg (about 56g)
- Pot of water
- Curry powder or tumeric powder (you can also use food coloring)
- Some dark soy sauce or brown food coloring
- Decoration ingredients such as cheese, crabstick

Tools
- Car shape egg mold
- Pot
- Small brush
- Fried thin pasta (optional)
- Small scissors
- Food tweezes

Method
1. Cook the egg for about 8 mins or until it is hard-boiled.
2. Peel the egg.
3. Prepare a pot of water and add some curry powder, mix well. Bring to boil. Gently put in the hard boil egg into the pot. Cook for 1 min or more, until the egg is evenly colored.
4. Remove the egg from pot. Dab it dry a little using paper napkin. Place the egg into the egg mold (while the egg is still hot).
5. Close the egg mold and fasten the clip.
6. Throw into the fridge (not freezer) immediately for at least 10mins.
7. Remove the mold from the fridge and open the mold. You should have a nicely shaped and imprinted egg.
8. You can further decorate the egg to bring out the design. Over here, I used dark soy sauce to color the 'car windows' and added some cheese, crabstick to make the bear, car brake light, wheels. Get creative and have fun!
9. Assemble in the bento box, and now you are done! :)
